Essential Functions

  • Works closely with staff in engineering, human resources, legal and operations

  • Provides technical safety and health support and information to field and corporate personnel

  • Prepares written safety and health programs and policies

  • Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs

  • Develops annual company safety and health goals

  • Participates in process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.

  • Supports corporate/operations to implement controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards

  • Supports site personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Maintains corporate safety library (e.g. videos, regulations, reference manuals)

  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda and training programs

  • Assists as necessary in implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports

  • Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur

  • Audits practices and records of construction sites to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations

  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and workerโ€™s compensation claims

  • Reviews injury/illness and non-injury investigation reports and follows up as necessary

  • Participates in the weekly company safety call

  • Manages the Material Safety and Data Sheet (MSDS) program

  • The Safety Manager will prioritize technical safety and health support to construction and corporate personnel

  • This individual has the responsibility to develop safety and health programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs

  • They have an attention to detail that allows for the highest monitoring of safety and health regulations

  • They are a team player who provides technical support to construction site and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations.

Work Environment

  • Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to lift or move up to 25 pounds

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing and participate in random testing program

  • Position requires working in all conditions including outdoors and in a professional office atmosphere

  • Must possess valid driverโ€™s license and are required to drive company vehicles

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has minimal supervisory requirements

Required Knowledge

  • Must be detail-oriented

  • Must have strong organizational, time management and prioritization abilities

  • Must be a team player and possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Experienced in OSHA regulations and the implementation of those regulations

  • Project planning skills

Job Related Certification

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required, Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

  • Five to seven years of proven safety management experience required

  • Knowledge of construction safety measures and accident prevention required
